Just one ticket lets you visit all the UNESCO monuments of the city except for Sant'Apollinare in Classe, being outside the city its entrance is paid separately.
By bus from Comacchio:every morning buses depart for the centre of Ravenna taking about an hour.
Direct route: SS309 Romea to Ravenna. A few trucks later and you'll reach the city centre ....about 35Km.
Panoramic itinerary: Take the Provincial Road for Ferrara for 1Km go over the first bridge you come to and continue on following the indications for Anita. After 4, 90°curves you'll be in the fields of the Great Reclamation of Valle Pega which meets with the Zavelea Valley one of the most important havens for bird watching (there is a tower for sighting birds).
You're in the far north-west of the Comacchio valleys, from here on is the Agosta embankment. Let your eyes run over the shiny placid waters that extend in front of you which will accompany you for about 12 Km till you reach (on your left) Via Rotta indicating the ferry-boat.
Continue along this road until you come to the embankment south (Argine sud) of the Comacchio valleys. You'll be now driving about 4-5 meters above sea level....the view is breathtaking... it will be easy to see Pink Flamingos fishing for their meal.
A little further on you'll get to the car-ferry that takes you over the Reno river. It costs about €2. Now you are in St.Albert and follow the directions for Ravenna.
Once in the vicinity of Ravenna you will come to traffic lights - continue on into the centre of Ravenna. But first, I suggest you visit Sant'Apollinare in Classe outside Ravenna and then got to the city centre.At the traffic lights turn left and after 3 Km turn right for Rimini. You're on the SS Adriatica: continue for 5 Km till you come to the indications for the Basilica of Sant'Apolinnare in Classe. In Ravenna you can park near the railway station or the parking lot behind San Vitale, (a bit more expensive).
An interesting note:
The windows of the Mausoleum di Galla Placidia are not glass, but alabaster panels wich give off a soft warm light contrasting the cold lighr cast off the blue ceiling mosaics. Here the illusion from the 3-dimenionsal images create greater depth, and don't follow the traditional 2-dimensions of Byzantine tradition.
